Partners in Math - Program Coordinator

SUMMARY:
This position’s primary purpose is to coordinate volunteer recruitment, communication, and program implementation in support of Partners in Math volunteers and teachers. This person may also have the opportunity to identify and implement best practices and recruit teachers and schools for potential expansion.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience working with volunteers, including volunteer recruitment
  • Interpersonal skills, especially in the area of creating and fostering effective relationships with schools and volunteers
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communications and demonstrated ability to make effective presentations
  • Ability to mass communicate and disseminate information electronically
  • Experience working with people from underserved communities
  • Ability to work with others as a member of a team in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Interest in taking ownership of and growing program(s)
  • Ability to manage large amounts of database information; excellent attention to details
  • Ability to multi-task, organize and maintain records
  • Knowledge of corporate operations and procedures is a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Outlook, Word
  • Demonstrated enjoyment of mathematics
  • Enthusiasm for providing all students with high-quality educational experiences
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Establish relationships with corporate and community partners and manage communication related to volunteer recruitment and retention in the Partners in Math program
  • Coordinate approximately 100-150 volunteers for the Partners in Math volunteer program, which includes training, placement, support, and follow up
  • Coordinate the program in approximately 20-30 classrooms, which includes collaborating with teachers and volunteers to make sure issues are resolved
  • Regularly visit schools to monitor and support program (reliable transportation required)
  • Assist with communication related to program expansion for 08-09 school year
  • Assist in planning events for math study group volunteers including 2 networking meetings, 3-4 trainings, and 2 program debriefing events during the school year
  • Implement program improvements as determined by evaluation
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university. A minimum of two years coordinating volunteers is preferred.

LANGUAGE ABILITY:
Ability to write reports and business correspondence
Ability to present effectively to large groups
Ability to respond professionally and positively to questions and concerns from groups of volunteers and teachers
Fluency in Spanish is an asset.

MATH ABILITY:
An enjoyment of math, accompanied by basic skills, is required.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the environment is moderate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk, drive, and have transportation. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

$30,000-$35,000 with benefits

Benefits Overview:

Full-time employees who work in full-time positions are eligible for medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 90 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short and long term disabilit and 403(b) retirement plan.

Internship and Work Study Opportunities
Job Title: Intern
  • Part-time or full-time unpaid internship
  • Academic credit or work study positions are available
  • Minimum expected commitment is approximately 10 hrs per week for the full academic year (preferred) or semester.

SUMMARY
Austin Partners in Education creates and fosters effective community and school partnerships that provide all AISD students preparation for college and career. You can choose to intern for any of our Study Group volunteer programs:
College Readiness

Partners in Literature
Partners in Technology

With each of these programs, an intern will gain valuable experience in a fast-paced nonprofit environment focused on promoting academic success for students in underserved communities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve at least one hour per week as lead classroom volunteer.
  • Provide administrative assistance as needed.
  • Provide consistent and professional communication with volunteers via phone and email.
  • Assist with planning, preparation, and execution of trainings.
  • Assist with the planning and organization of volunteer recognition initiatives.
  • Make school deliveries and site visits as needed to monitor program quality.
  • Assist Coordinators with survey collection.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Interest in improving academic achievement for children in underserved schools.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of people.
  • Valid driver’s license with access to reliable private transportation.
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communications with a demonstrated ability to make effective presentations.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Organizational skills and flexibility a must.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Internet Browsers.
  • ** Spanish written and oral fluency required for Compañeros en lectura Interns.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Open to current undergraduate and graduate students (college juniors or seniors or graduate students preferred). Experience in education or nonprofit environments a plus.
