Volunteer as a Classroom Coach

Through active inquiry and a deep commitment to continuous improvement, APIE has created an effective, scalable learning model focused on academic performance.

APIE’s Classroom Coaching model transforms whole class instruction (with student to teacher ratios of 25:1 or higher) to small interactive learning teams with one adult volunteer matched to three or fewer students (3:1).

Trained volunteers work with the same groups of children for 45 minutes, once weekly, throughout the school year. Students are supported with high engagement learning activities in reading or math that provide opportunities for practice and feedback. Instruction is targeted to learners’ individual needs and because this support is integrated into the classroom, a deep connection with the AISD curriculum and teacher-led instruction is established. Classroom Coaching is offered in:

  • 2nd Grade Reading / Companeros en lectura
  • 6th & 7th Grade Reading
  • 6th & 8th Grade Math

As a Classroom Coach you will:

Provide consistent, positive support as a mentor/tutor for 2-3 school students in math or reading

Apply interactive learning tools to engage students in building critical thinking skills

Support teachers by providing differentiated, individualized instruction

Build a strong foundation for math success, reducing drop-out risk

Model cooperative behavior to strengthen individual and group skills

Show students you care about their academic success

Celebrate student successes

Experience the reward of knowing you helped another person

The Benefits of Small Group Learning

We focused our deepest intervention this year in Webb Middle School. The results are increased TAKS scores, teacher satisfaction, and student engagement.

“The improvement in the 8th grade Math TAKS pass rate and the increase in students that attained a commended level can be largely attributed to the support we received from Austin Partners in Education’s Math Classroom Coaching and Step Up. These programs provide our middle school students with small-group academic intervention as well as valuable personal support.” - Reynaldo Garcia, Principal, Webb MS
