Classroom Coaching volunteers fill the double role of tutor and mentor. Each week volunteers spend 45 minutes in the regular classroom “coaching” the same 2-3 students in either:
★ 8th grade math
★ 2nd grade reading, English
★ 2nd grade reading, Spanish
★ 6th grade, English
This is a highly structured, high-impact opportunity. With just 45 minutes per week for about 24 weeks during the school year, our team of volunteers change thousands of lives!
How Classroom Coaching works:
- A team of coaches is assigned to a teacher, a small group of students, and a 45-minute weekly time slot.
- Training, materials and classroom support are provided to every volunteer.
- Each coach works with the same group of students each week and builds important mentoring relationships.
- Groups work together on reading, writing, or math, depending on the program.
- The teacher is available for support.
- Classroom Coaches add real world relevance to school work.
- Students benefit from volunteers’ support and encouragement.
- Every student in the class participates so every student benefits!

Listen to UT Football Coach, Mack Brown's support of Classroom Coaching....

“The appreciation that the kids in the Reading Clasroom Coaching program showed was the highlight of my week. It was so obvious that some of them really needed positive interactions with adults. I was honored to have the opportunity to have a positive impact in our community. Volunteering as a group from Capital Metro was a great opportunity for team building.” -- Donna Simmons, Capital Metro
