APIE programs are making a positive impact for students across Austin.  The 2007-2008 evaluation showed the results below.

College Readiness:
The College Readiness Program supports campus initiatives that collectively target graduating seniors who have not met the TSI/College Readiness Standard.    Each year we serve an increasing number of students and are on track to serve all target students by 2010.  At the schools that were served, the following numbers of students achieved the TSI standard.

Partners in Math:
Greater percentages of APIE participants passed their TAKS math test and scored 2200 or above (Commended), compared with non-APIE participants.

Partners in Reading/CompaƱeros en Lectura:
In contrast with the comparison group, fewer APIE students were reading at grade level at the beginning of the year in 07-08.  However, the APIE students made greater gains between the beginning and end of the schools year than comparison students, and a greater percentage of APIE students were reading at grade level by the end of the school year.

Partners in Technology:
  • 680 students learned computer hardware and software fundamentals, and took home their family’s first computer with a year of free internet.
  • Students from every AISD middle school participated in the programs.
 
Mentoring:
  • 850 mentors were screened and referred to APIE Campus Mentor Coordinators to meet weekly with students.
  • 80 APIE Campus Mentor Coordinators were trained and/or supported
  • 800 mentors and tutors were screened and referred to partner organizations.
 
Additional successes in 2008-2009 include:
Salute & Adopt-a-School:
  • In conjunction with AISD, APIE hosted over 1000 guests to celebrate the Teacher of the Year, AISD Staff, Volunteers and Partners for the 2008-2009 school year.
  • Over $8.6M in cash, $5.8M in services, and 580,000 volunteer hours were contributed to AISD; $26M total value in community donations to Austin ISD were documented and reported.
Feria Para Aprender, coordinated in collaboration with CommuniCard, LLC:
  • Over 7,500 students and parents received information and educational resources in Spanish from over 70 organizations. 
  • Participants received free children's books, vision screenings, and immunizations as well as the opportunity to engage with Spanish-speaking role models from a variety of industries.
